Naturalist Intern

Naturalist Interns are mentored and trained to teach 4th-6th grade students in science concepts, cultural history, team building, low ropes elements, and facilitation of our high ropes course. This paid 10-month Internship starts August 4, 2025 and ends June 5, 2026. Compensation and perks include $26,400 for the 10-month commitment, private room in a shared house and meals when program is in session. Applications are currently being accepted. Custodian Substitute

Open Until Filled - Under direct supervision, this position performs a variety of custodial duties, in addition to some light grounds and maintenance work. Schedule is dependent on staffing needs for SOS and may be performed during daytime, evening and weekend hours. Naturalist

Naturalist teach California Natural History, Environmental Science, Conservation, and Social History, including the Gold Rush and its impact on Indigenous communities.  

Develop and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based lessons aligned with NGSS (Next  
Generation Science Standards), California’s EP&Cs (Environmental Principles and Concepts), and California 4th grade history or any other curriculum adopted by the District. 

Facilitate team-building and leadership activities, promoting social-emotional learning, communication, and problem-solving skills.  

Lead high and low ropes challenge course activities, deliver instruction, and ensure student safety and skill development.  

Guide students in hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and outdoor adventure programs, emphasizing personal growth and environmental responsibility.   

Support the Raptor Center program, ensuring the care, well-being, and ethical handling of non-releasable birds of prey.  

Lead wildlife conservation programs, educating students on raptor ecology, adaptations, and conservation efforts.
