Sierra Adventure Program Day Classes
(Unless specified, all classes
are 3.5 hours, for up to 35 students)
Team Challenge
High Ropes
Climbing Wall
Wilderness SkillsMountain Biking
On-site mountain biking will begin
with a class on basic bike operation and safety. This popular activity gives
students the chance to ride through the Stanislaus National Forest, with
beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains along the way. The focus is on
developing safe and environmentally conscious biking techniques. All routes are
geared to beginning and intermediate skill levels.
Nature Hike
Students will learn what makes this habitat unique as
they get to know the plants and wildlife of our
forest ecosystem. Students will also have opportunities to study animal tracks
and walk along the Columbia Ditch. The goal is to get students more comfortable
with their natural world and give them a better understanding of how living and
non-living things work together in the natural environment.
True Colors
Everyone has a brightest color, depending
on their personality. This class has the students analyze
their preferences and ways of operating based on a simple
test, then lets them know their color (strongest personality
type). They learn how to better understand themselves, as
well as how to better understand where other color types are
coming from. This tends to promote greater tolerance and
better relationships, especially as students experience
the Sierra Adventure Program together. (1.5 hours)
Leadership This
class was adapted
from the Fresno County Office of Education Leadership Academy. Students learn the four stages of leadership as well as the three
"R's" (respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness). They also learn the
three "F's" (fun, and failing forward) and practice leadership skills
through various team-building activities. (1.5 hours)
